LORAIN — One man was sent to the hospital and another was taken into custody after a reported stabbing on Tuesday that might have been instigated by a simple request for quiet.

About 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, a fight broke out between two men in a house on the corner of West 12th Street and Oberlin Avenue, prompting one man to stab the other, residents at the house reported.

Police have not released the names of either man or the weapon used in the alleged stabbing. They took a man into custody shortly after the incident but did not charge him Tuesday evening.

They still are investigating whether the incident was an act of self-defense or aggression, said Lorain police Det. Buddy Sivert.

According to a family member of the victim, the dispute started after the victim asked his roommate to be quiet so he could sleep. The family member said the roommate pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim repeatedly.

Another roommate who was in the house said he came downstairs to see blood covering the scene. He said the victim was able to talk after the attack and called an ambulance to take him to Mercy Regional Medical Center.

According to the Lorain County auditor’s website, the house has been owned by Harold and Kathy Piquet since January. A roommate said five people, including the victim, live in the house.
