Shirley M. Trottier (nee Slack), 77, of Amherst, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake following a lengthy illness. A lifetime resident of Amherst, Shirley was born April 3, 1937.
Shirley was employed in the payroll department at Nordson Corporation in Amherst before retiring. She attended St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst. Shirley was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Auxiliary #1662 in Amherst and the Amherst Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1442. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden and caring for the humming birds. She was well known and loved by her family and friends for her chicken and biscuit dinners and banana split cake. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Don Chutes and his wife, Winnie of Plain City, Ohio; her daughter, Barb Dillon and her husband, Brendan of Elyria, Susie Chutes of Amherst; her stepson, Scott Trottier and his wife, Judy of Amherst; her stepdaughters, Bonnie Meyer, Toni Nicklaus and her husband Ron, all of Manitowac, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, David Trottier, Stacey (Chris) Renaldo, Phil (Cassie) Golden, Aaron Golden, Danielle (Cody) Freemyer, Benjamin (Codie) Molnar, Casey White, Terceira Molnar, Chris White, R.J. (Megan) Nicklaus, Colt Nicklaus, Samantha Greenlee, Matthew Ruiz, Eamon Dillon, Marissa Greenlee, Jenny Payne; great grandchildren Krista, Taylor, Trevor, Casey, Austin, Gavin, Abel, Ella.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Charles “Dick” Richard Trottier on July 12, 2013; two brothers, Richard and Raymond Slack; her step son, Charles “Rick” Richard Trottier; step daughter, Pamela Trottier; and her parents, Matthew and Clara Slack (nee Bach).
Friends may call Monday, April 21, 2014 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Fr. Frank Kosem, Pastor of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, will officiate. Burial will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
