John David Sobieski

Sobieski_JohnJohn David Sobieski, 71, of Wellington, passed away suddenly at Allen Mercy Hospital, Wednesday, April 16, 2014. He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, April 28, 1942.

John move from Erie to Oberlin in 1952 and settled in the Pittsfield area. He was a graduate of Oberlin High (1962), where he met and married his wife of 49 years, Kathy. After graduation, he attended welding school in Detroit, Michigan. John worked as a tool and die maker for Nordson Corp. for 48 years. He was an accomplished runner, having run several marathons, including Boston in 1984. He was a member of the United Polish Club in Elyria. Family was very important to John and it was from them that he received his greatest joy.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Sobieski of Wellington; sons, John “David” (Amy) Sobieski of Minnesota, Dennis (Regina) Sobieski of New London, Robert (Sara) Sobieski of North Carolina; daughter, Marla (John) Thompson of Oberlin; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Carolyn Clark of Pittsburgh, Joyce Mohrman of Wellington; brother, Steve Schuster of Oberlin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty Sobieski.

Visitation will be Monday, April 21, 2014, 6 until 8 P.M., at the Cowling Funeral Home of Oberlin. A funeral Mass will be 10 A.M., Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin. Father Robert J. Cole will be the Celebrant. Interment will be at New Russia Township Cemetery.
