This year’s Lorain County Fair will be a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll.

Country music singer-songwriter Thomas Rhett will open the 2014 fair Monday, Aug. 18, and classic rock group Foreigner will take the stage Tuesday, Aug. 19.

Rhett got his start as a songwriter, penning “I Ain’t Ready to Quit” on Jason Aldean’s 2010 album. He then signed his own recording contract with Big Machine Label Group, and his debut single, “Something to Do With My Hands,” was released in 2011.

His music infuses solid country roots with a distinct urban streak. His debut album, “It Goes Like This,” was released in October and includes the songs “Beer with Jesus,” “Get Me Some of That,” “Make Me Wanna” and the title track, “It Goes Like This.”

While country artists have long been a staple at the fair, entertainment director Tim Buchs said fairgoers have been asking for a classic rock show. This year, Buchs said the board was able to deliver.

Founded in 1976, Foreigner has sold more than 70 million albums and has experienced multi-platinum success around the world. The band has recorded 16 Top 30 hits, including “I Want to Know What Love Is,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” “Double Vision,” Hot Blooded,” and “Feels like the First Time.”

Foreigner is comprised of leader and founder Mick Jones on lead guitar, singer Kelly Hansen, bassist Jeff Pilson, multi-instrumentalist Tom Gimbel, keyboardist Michael Bluestein and Chris Fazier on drums.

Both shows will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for Thomas Rhett are $25, and tickets for Foreigner are $29. By popular request from fans and artists, the area directly in front of the stage will include a standing section.

Tickets will go on sale at the fair box office starting at 9 a.m. May 19. Online sales will begin at 9:30 a.m. May 19. Box office buyers are limited to 20 tickets, with no more than 10 from the center track, until 9:30 a.m.

Phone, mail and fax sales begin at noon May 19. Payment must be included with orders.

Other entertainment for the 2014 Lorain County Fair includes the smokeout diesel truck pull Aug. 20; the horse pull Aug. 21; the NTPA Grand National Pull Aug. 22; and the combine demolition derby Aug. 23. Ticket information for these shows is available on the Lorain County Fair’s website at loraincountyfair.com.
