George A. Mycek, 88, of Wellington, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014, surrounded by his family, at the Laurels of New London. He was born August 1, 1925, in Suffren, New York, to the late George P. and Anna (nee Krajnak) Mycek. George served in the Merchant Marines for two years during the Second World War, going to Europe, Africa, and through the Panama Canal. George married his wife, Marie (nee Gimbert) on September 21, 1952 and they moved to Wellington in 1960.
George worked at the Wagner Seed Co. in Wellington for 35 years, as the manager. He was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church. George enjoyed reading and keeping up on the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He was a talented wood worker and liked to spend time outdoors working in his yard.
George is survived by his children, Patricia (Jack) Sumpter, Beth (Mark) Zacharias, and Pete (Lisa) Mycek, all of Wellington; grandchildren, Daniel and David Sumpter, Joseph, Jared, John, Anne and Abby Zacharias, and Jacob and Amanda Mycek; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Visoky of New York.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 61 years, Marie, on September 2, 2013. He was also preceded by his siblings, Mary Hudson, Elizabeth Bidwell, Ann Conklin, Joseph and John Mycek.
Friends and family will be received Friday, April 25, 2014, from 3 until 5 P.M., at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington, and from 9:30 A.M., until the time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M., on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 512 North Main St., Wellington. Father James Reymann will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
