Lorain house causes $50,000 damage, displaces 5 residents

LORAIN — Five people escaped from a house fire early Friday that left the building uninhabitable.

About 2 a.m. Friday, a fire broke out in a house at 1108 W. 12th St. The five people in the house escaped uninjured, said Lorain Fire Department Capt. Matt Homolya.

The front porches on the first and second floor were fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The Lorain Fire Department was aided by a truck from the Elyria Fire Department and they put out the flames in an hour, Homolya said.

The Red Cross will help the five find temporary housing, Homolya said.

The estimated loss of the house is about $50,000.
