Mark A. Elek, 55, of Elyria, passed away after a brief illness at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born November 5, 1958, in Elyria.
Mark was a 1977 graduate of Midview High School and Lorain Community College. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary Church, Elyria, also finance officer and sports committee of Sons of Amvets Post #32, a member of Polish Club of Elyria, high school football referee and high school baseball umpire. Mark enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and loved trains. He was dedicated to placing American flags, on Memorial Day, on graves at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria.
Survivors include his sister, Marcia (Larry) Bright of Elyria; and especially adored his niece, Jennifer Elek-Hoffman; and great-nephew, Jacob Jeremiah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Diane (nee Haury).
Family will receive friends from 1 to 4 P.M., Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria, (440) 322-4626. Closing prayers will be 9:30 A.M., Monday, April 28, 2014, in the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Reverend Father Charles Diedrick will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
