David Dorinski

Dorinski_DavidDavid Dorinski, 54, of Lorain, passed away at Mercy Regional Medical Center on the morning of Thursday, April 24, 2014. He was born in Lorain on September 10, 1959 and remained a life long resident of the city.

Dave was a 1978 graduate of Clearview High School and was a member of the National Honor Society there. Recognized as one of the best athletes that Clearview ever produced, he was a standout running back on the Clipper football team; his 358 yard single-game rushing performance in 1978 earned him top honors at the school, and fourth place recognition in Lorain County. In addition, he was a member of the track team and was part of the state championship relay team in 1977. He rounded out is athletic career at Clearview as a member of the varsity basketball team.

Following graduation, he attended the College of Wooster and later received his Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University. He had been employed as a consultant for Aztec Development in Elyria.

Dave retired from his business career almost a decade ago to pursue his true passion for volleyball. For the past nine years he had guided the girl’s volleyball team at Clearview and served as a local coach and tournament director for the Advance Volleyball Club; in addition, he had served as a Junior Olympic volleyball coach and organized numerous tournaments at Put-In-Bay. Affectionately known as the Mayor of Lakeview Beach, he devoted countless hours to organizing high school beach volleyball leagues and tournaments on the sands of the north coast. Dave was a member of the Ohio High School Coaches Association.

When not involved with volleyball, he liked spending his free time deep sea and freshwater fishing.

He is survived by his mother, Rosalie A. Dorinski (nee Tucker) of Lorain; brothers, Eugene F. Dorinski, Jr. (Jean) of Elyria, and Paul Dorinski of Lorain; his sister, Roberta Webber-Carter (David) of Lorain; he also leaves nephews, Eugene F. Dorinski III, Kyle Webber, Taylor Webber, Christopher Carter and Travis Carter; along with his niece, Jody Carter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene F. Dorinski, Sr. in 1996.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 3 to 9 P.M. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 30, 2014 beginning at 9:15 A.M. in the Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 A.M. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria. Reverend Donald Dunson, Pastor of the Parish will serve as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
