Mark A. Elek

Mark A. Elek, 55, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014, after a brief illness at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born November 5, 1958 in Elyria.

Mark was a 1977 graduate of Midview High School and Lorain Community College. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary Church, Elyria, lifetime member of Sons of Amvets post #32, where he held the office of finance officer and a member of the sports committee, member of Polish Club of Elyria, High School football referee and High School baseball umpire.

Mark enjoyed gardening, woodworking and was lover of trains. He was dedicated on Memorial Day placing flags on graves at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria.

Survivors include his sister, Marcia (Larry) Bright of Elyria; and especially adored his niece Jennifer Elek-Hoffman; and great-nephew, Jacob Jeremiah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Diane (nee Haury).

Family will receive friends 1 to 4 P.M., Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57), Elyria, (440) 322-4626. Closing prayers will be 9:30 A.M., Monday, April 28, 2014 in the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Rev. Fr. Charles Diedrick will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
