Harry B. Rowland, Jr., 91, of Rochester, died late Friday evening, April 25, 2014, at Fisher Titus Medical Center. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, son of the late Harry B., Sr. and Irena Turney (nee Bigelow) Rowland. Harry lived most of his life in New London and Rochester.
He was a 1941 graduate of New London High School. Following graduation Harry joined the United States Army and proudly served as a member of the 11th Airborne 28th Glider division. Harry was a truck driver as well as a farmer and owned his own trucking business.
He was a member of the Ruritan, a founding member of the Rochester Fire Department, a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge, and was the Lorain Landmark director for 20 years. Harry enjoyed working on his farm, traveling, and woodworking. He also enjoyed the mini-reunions with his Army buddies.
Harry is survived by his children, Gary (Jane) Rowland of Wellington, Judy (Ronald) Pickworth of LaGrange, Frank Rowland and Robert (Robin) Rowland, both of Wellington; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; he is also survived by his brothers, King B. Rowland of New London, and James Rowland of Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys (nee Mohrman) Rowland; and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 5 to 9 P.M. at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London, where services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2014 beginning at 11 A.M., with Pastor Tina Siroki officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Center Cemetery.
