He was a graduate of Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana as well as Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. After college, Tom graduated from medical school at the University of Cincinnati where he specialized in internal medicine and pediatrics. After completing his residency in California, he joined the U.S. Army and served as a physician stationed in Germany. After serving his country, he settled in Grafton, Ohio where he started his medical practice. He later relocated his medical practice to Elyria and became a long time Elyria resident.
His medical career spanned over 40 years during which time he was on staff at Elyria Memorial Hospital. While there, he taught at the M.B. Johnson School of Nursing and also served as Chief of Staff at Elyria Memorial Hospital. In addition to his medical practice, he worked as a physician at U.S. Steel. He was a well known family physician as well as a valued member of the community. He served on the Midview school board and later volunteered as sports doctor for the Elyria Pioneers among other contributions. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church.
He is survived by his children, Tina Williams Tallman and husband Tom of Shaker Heights, Jennifer Williams Noxsel and husband Doug of Fairfield, Ohio, Annaliese Williams Davis and husband Jim of Daleville, Indiana, Robert D. Reinker and wife Rene of Avon, Christian E. Williams of Jersey City, New Jersey, Laurie Reinker Schmidt and husband William of Louisville, Kentucky; and 11 grandchildren; he is also survived by his brothers, Bob Williams and wife Marcia of Del Rio, Texas and Jack Williams and wife Connie of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gale Ellen Reinker Williams; as well as his first wife, Lucy Bo Hale Williams; and his parents, Charles and Dorothy Williams.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 5 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Reichlin-Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria. A service celebrating his life will be held 10 A.M., Thursday, May 1, 2014 in the funeral home, with interment immediately following at Brookdale Cemetery, Oberlin Elyria Road, Elyria.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Tom to further the search for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
