Ronald E. Poyle, Sr., 71, of Lorain, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, following a sudden illness. Ron was born August 29, 1942 in Isabella, Pennsylvania, before moving to Lorain, where he made his home for the last 59 years.
He attended Clearview High School graduating with the class of 1960, where he played football. In his later years he was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame.
Ron was self-employed for many years. He later went on to work as a sergeant for the State of Ohio at the Grafton Correctional Facility retiring in 2004 after 15 years of service.
He was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club and enjoyed many outdoor activities such as camping, hunting, and fishing. He was an active member of the Vermilion Fish and Game Association. He enjoyed working with wood. His greatest passion was spending time with his family and following the activities of his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carol A. Poyle (nee Luman); his sons, Ronald E. (Cheryl) Poyle, Jr. of Amherst, Robert S. (Jacqueline) Poyle, Ross A. (Debbie) Poyle and Brian K. (Debbie) Poyle, all of Lorain; his daughter, Marcia (Jeff) Hennessee of Lorain; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his brother, Donald (Leona) Wittmer of Wellington; and his sister, Virginia Poyle of Lorain.
Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Robert S. Poyle; his parents, Sunday and Blanche Poyle Wittmer (nee Baker); and his step father, Wayne Wittmer.
Friends may call Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11 A.M. at Tower Baptist Church, 1313 Tower Blvd., Lorain. Reverend Gary Dorsey, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
