LORAIN — A registered sex offender picked up an 11-year-old girl in February and took her to Cleveland, where he sexually assaulted her in a hotel, police said.

John Williams, 47, of Cleveland, was charged with rape Wednesday at Cuyahoga County Jail where he was serving time for a parole violation.

The arrest was connected to a February incident when Williams met an 11-year-old Lorain girl online, Lorain police Detective Tabitha Angello said.

According to police, Williams drove from Cleveland to Lorain, picked up the girl at her house and took her to a hotel in Cleveland, where he sexually assaulted her.

Police wouldn’t comment on how the girl got away from Williams.

This is the second time Williams — a registered tier II sex offender — has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor. In 2012, Williams was indicted for kidnapping, abduction, gross sexual imposition, endangering children and two counts of rape through Cuyahoga County Municipal Court for an assault on an 8-year-old girl.

Williams is being held at Lorain City Jail on a $1 million bond. His next court date is Wednesday at Lorain Municipal Court.
