LORAIN — A Lorain man was charged with obstructing official business after police said he at first attempted to swallow a bag containing suspected drugs.
Tracey Hale, 35, was cited after police went to investigate a car with three people asleep in it in the 3100 block of Grove Avenue at 4:41 p.m. Friday, reports said.
Police spotted a partial plastic baggie on the lap of a man later identified as Hale, who, police said, was sleeping in the driver’s seat of the car when officers approached.
Police said the baggie contained “small white rocks” consistent with those found in narcotics.
When an officer reached through an open window for the baggie, the man woke up and shoved it into his mouth as police ordered him to drop it, reports said.
An officer put his hand to Hale’s throat and applied pressure to prevent him from swallowing the baggie, police said.
Hale was pulled from the car a few moments later and handcuffed.
His two female passengers were also handcuffed initially but later released after police found nothing on them.
Reports said a small quantity of burnt marijuana and other drug-related items was found in the vehicle.
