This weekend marks the “unofficial” start to summer, as Cedar Point opens for the 2014 season on Saturday.

To celebrate the park’s opening, visitors will receive a complimentary Cedar Point VIP jacket at the main entrance, upon exit, while supplies last.

This year’s new rides include the Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles. In addition, CampSnoopy is celebrating its 15th anniversary with two relocated kid-favorite rites – Woodstock’s Airmail (formerly Frog Hopper) and Wilderness Run (formerly Jr. Gemini).

Later this summer, the new SlingShot ride, which will launch rides nearly 360 feet into the air, will open.

Also new this year is an assortment of new food and beverage options, including Chickie’s and Pete’s, a full-service Starbucks, Auntie Anne’s, Cinnabon, Coca-Cola Freestyle and Yogurt Plus.

For visitors who prefer the shows, Luminosity: Ignite the Night has an all-new lineup of music, dancing and pyrotechniques, and will be performed nightly, except on Tuesdays, between May 30 and Aug. 17. Several new shows will debut this summer, including “Rockin’ Country,” “Lusty Lil’s Revue,” and “Snoopy Unleashed.”
