Anthony F. “Dutch” Meyer

OBIT FLAGMeyer_AnthonyAnthony F. “Dutch” Meyer, 84, of Waterville, died Monday, April 28, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio. He was born May 9, 1929 in Emerald Township, Paulding County, Ohio, to Edmund and Margaret (Schmitz) Meyer.

Tony served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a residential carpenter for 50 years, beginning his carpentry work in Toledo in 1955 for Meyer & Mohn. In 1987, he became a partner in Riverview Construction. He also worked for Scholz Homes during the 1970′s.

Tony was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Maumee, Ohio, where he was an usher since 1978. He was also a member of the Whitehouse American Legion, and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. He loved playing euchre at the Bowling Green and Monclova Senior Centers. He also enjoyed going to auctions, returning home with an endless variety of “treasures.” He loved to paint, taking classes at the Maumee Senior Center and had his artwork displayed at several locations.

Tony married Donna Longwell on May 30, 1951. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage.

Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Maglio of Glendale, Wisconsin, Patricia (John) Breno of Maumee, Ohio, Janet (Bob) Douglas of Maumee, Ohio and Christine Seles of Whitehouse, Ohio; grandchildren, Shari, Jeremy, Sarah, John, Erin, Bobby, David, Holly and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Caelum, Landon and Brooklyn; and siblings, Rosemary Haas and Donald (Joyce) Meyer; he is also survived by his beloved dog, Ralph.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; infant daughter, Linda; and grandchildren, Ryan, Donna and Tony.

Visitation was held Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 2 to 6 P.M. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Rd., Waterville, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, May 5, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Parish, Maumee, Ohio. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Ohio.

Memorials can be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), American Cancer Society or the church.
