Hildegard Reitz (nee Pitz), 82, of Elyria, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, May 5, 2014 at her home following a brief illness. She was born June 18, 1931 in Breidenbach, Germany. Hildegard came to the United States in 1954. She lived in Syracuse, New York before moving to Elyria, where she had made her home for the last 59 years.
She devoted her life to that of a homemaker and to her family. She was an excellent baker and known for her cakes. Hildegard was a member of the Church of the Open Door in Elyria. Prior to Open Door she and her husband belonged to LaGrange First Baptist Church where they we’re very active.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 62 years, Arthur Reitz; her daughters, Marion Reitz and Monika Reitz, both of Elyria; two grandchildren, Michael Sinegar and Heather Wagner; five great grandchildren; and her sister and her husband, Erika and Eric Gerlach of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Rosina Pitz (nee Schmidt).
Friends may call Friday, May 9, 2014 from 9 to 11 A.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Reverend Robert Wickens, Associate Pastor of Church of the Open Door of Elyria will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110 or the charity of the donors choice.
