2014 NFL Draft: Report says Browns won’t draft QB Johnny Manziel at No. 4

Sorry, Johnny Manziel fans. It looks like the Browns won’t be taking him with the No. 4 pick in the NFL Draft on Thursday night.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Tuesday night that, despite increased buzz the Browns would draft Manziel if available, the Browns would pass on the electrifying but polarizing Texas A&M quarterback.

“Browns won’t be drafting Manziel at #4,” Glazer tweeted. “I know it’s been out there a ton that they will but no that’s not how they have it.”

During an earlier radio interview, Glazer stressed that owner Jimmy Haslam wouldn’t influence the plans of general manager Ray Farmer. Haslam told a few Browns reporters the same thing at the owners meetings in March.

Haslam has raved about Manziel privately for months, fueling speculation. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said Monday he expected the Browns to take Manziel if Auburn offensive lineman Greg Robinson was gone.

Glazer said that won’t happen.

That leaves the Browns to likely choose between Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins, Buffalo outside linebacker Khalil Mack, Robinson or Texas A&M tackle Jake Matthews.

The Browns are expected to take a quarterback within the first couple of rounds, likely at No. 26. It’s doubtful Manziel will still be on the board.
