The Port Authority, which has been around for 50 years, saw voters approve a five-year, 1-mill property tax renewal Tuesday that supplies $800,000 of the agency’s $1 million annual budget.
Voters approved the issue 65 percent to 35 percent, or 2,686 in favor and 1,45 against, according to unofficial election results.
Without the levy funding, the authority would have difficulty functioning, according to Lorain Port Authority Executive Director Rick Novak.
The levy will generate money to pay for the agency’s operating expenses. It has three full-time employees and one part-time employee.
