A man has been charged in connection with a missing Sheffield Township teenager who was found in Kentucky.

Alexis Harrington, 14, who was reported missing on Saturday, was found at about 1 p.m. on Thursday in Vanceburg, Kentucky, according to Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputy Dwayne Stone.

Stone said deputies from his office received a tip on Thursday afternoon that Alexis was inside the residence of 33-year-old Shawn Bivens.

The sheriff’s office and the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force went to Bivens’ mobile home at 34 Dale Drive, Vanceburg, where they found Alexis “hiding in a dresser,” Stone said.

Stone said the teenager had bruises on her upper legs, but no other visible injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

According to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department, Alexis lived in the Vanceburg area for about a year last year because her father lived there. Stone said they were told that Alexis used to have a relationship with Bivens.

Alexis was reported missing on Saturday afternoon by her mother, who told Lorain County Sheriff’s deputies that Alexis said she was walking to Cityview Park. Her mother went looking for Alexis when she didn’t come back, and she contacted deputies when she couldn’t find her daughter.

Bivens has been charged with kidnapping and custodial interference. He has not received any federal charges. He is being held without bond at the Lewis County Detention Center. A court date is set for Tuesday.

The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office is working with the FBI and Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.

He apparently took her from Sheffield Township, Ohio to Vanceburg, Kentucky. That’s a federal crime under the Mann Act and other federal statutes.

Miss Harrington may also have been complicit in her “abduction”, and if so, juvenile court should be in her near future.
