Donald Eugene Smith, 81, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center, in Somerset, Kentucky. He was born October, 9, 1932 in Chesapeake, West Virginia, to the late Carl B. and Virginia (VanMeter) Smith.
Donald retired from Whirlaway Corporation in Wellington and was owner of S&S Tool Company, where he was a tool and die maker. He later worked for an architect, designing business buildings and private homes. He loved to fish, garden, and play the guitar at many functions, especially at the Pisgah School House Jam Sessions and Pulaski County Alzheimers Center. He was an award winning Nashville singer/songwriter.
He is survived by three sons, Carl B. (and Debbie) Smith of Elyria, Robert A. (Cheri) Smith of Elyria, Daniel J. Smith, of Elyria; a daughter, Donna (and John) Sharp of Elyria; stepchildren, Clark (and Deb) Foreid, Diane Foreid, Dale (and Debri) Foreid, Sharon (and Ray) Mencl, Mike (and Mary Claire) Donnelly, David Donnelly, Bill (and Mandy) Donnelly, and Kathie (and Mitry) Aramouni; a brother, Jake Smith; a sister, Eleanor Weaver; 32 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Buddy and Connie; and one sister, Susie.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Wellington Reservoir Visitation Center, 535 Jones Road, Wellington, from 1:30 until 4:30 P.M., Sunday, May 25, 2014.
