Helen F. Balvin (nee Huber), 84, of Elyria, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Elyria Wesleyan Village, following a brief illness. She was born September 17, 1928, in New York, New York and was an Elyria resident since 1994. Helen worked as a data processor for the Jesuit Seminary and Mission Bureau in New York for 25 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria and enjoyed playing bingo and cards and attending events at the Elyria Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include her daughters, Francine Balvin-Thompson and Gloria (Carl) Chavalia, both of Elyria; son, Dennis Balvin of Elyria; grandchildren, Anthony (Jeni) Sweeten and Anna Chavalia (Jerron); great-grandchildren, Connor, Erin, Caleb and Ashton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 2000; daughter, Helen Madelena Balvin; grandson, Dylan Balvin; sister, Josephine Kapek; and brothers, Frank and Joseph Huber and Karl Klose.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday May 14, 2014, at 2 P.M., in the chapel at the Elyria Wesleyan Village, 807 West Ave., Elyria, where the family will receive friends until 3:30 P.M. The Reverend Beth McKee, Chaplain of the Village, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
