William Bruce Moyers, 81, of Vermilion, formerly of Wellington, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 8, 2014, at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, following a brief illness. Mr. Moyers was born November 13, 1932, in Bellefonte, West Virginia. He had been a resident of Vermilion for the past year and a half and prior to that he resided in Wellington for many years.
He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Mr. Moyers was employed for 44 years at the Harshaw Chemical Company in Elyria and retired in 1994. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wellington, where he formerly served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Lorain County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, farming, gospel music and playing a hand of “Boss” with his friends.
He is survived by one son, Bill Moyers (Sue) of Vermilion; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Moyers of Wellington; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Betty Carr of Stumptown, West Virginia, Mary Sue Rollyson and Wanda Mitchell, both of Frametown, West Virginia and by Inez Napier of Statesville, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Cathleen (nee Moore) in 2007; one son, Timothy Moyers in 2011; and one brother, Bernard Moyers.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 12, 2014, from 5 until 8 P.M., at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 11 A.M., at First Baptist Church, 125 Grand Ave., Wellington, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Tom Alexander will officiate the service. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington.
