Alvin Blanton

OBIT FLAGBlanton_AlvinAlvin Blanton 66, of Kokomo, Indiana and native of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in Lafayette, Indiana. He was born September 10, 1948 in Lorain.

Alvin graduated from Lorain High School in 1968. He worked as an Inspector at Ford Motor Company (Lorain, Avon and Chicago Plants) for 42 years and retired in 2011.

Alvin enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 18 and served his country during the Vietnam War as a Lance Corporal from 1968-1970. He remained an active member and advocate of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee of Lorain County. Alvin was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20. He enjoyed bowling, attending various veteran events and spending time with family and friends. He was a former member of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, where he was baptized at a young age.

Alvin leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Brandon Burkes of Columbus, Richard, William and Eric Blanton, all of Cleveland; daughter, Hope Blanton of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Linda Blanton-Davis and Dorothy Yasko of Lorain, Diane Jackson of Elyria and Sandra (Donald) Smith of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin, Sr. and Lula (nee Goines); his twin brother, Calvin, Jr. and his brothers, Louis and Dennis.

The family will receive friends at 3630 Omaha Avenue, Lorain and visitation will be Monday, May 12, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the funeral center. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, with military honors being conducted.
