Johnny James Jackson of Elyria passed away peacefully in his home Friday, May 9, 2014 following a long illness. He was born in Lynden, Alabama, coming to Oberlin 43 years ago and moving to Elyria 10 months ago.
He was employed at Larson Foundry in Grafton as a Journey man core maker, retiring after 30 plus years. Mr. Jackson was an avid sports fan of the Auburn University of Alabama, also enjoying fishing and hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 40 plus years, Birdia M. Jackson; daughters, Lisa M. (LTC. Robert L. III) Farmer of Studttgart, Germany and Luvinia R. Jackson of Elyria; son, Rodney D. Jackson of Detroit; four grandchildren; sister, Bettie Jackson of Demopolis, Alabama; brothers, his twin brother, Deacon Henry Jackson, Jr. of Mobile, Alabama, Robert J. Jackson of Buffalo, New York, Kenneth Jackson of Oberlin, Eugene Jackson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Bobby Earl J. Jackson of Lynden, Alabama, Larry Jackson of Birmingham, Alabama, Lambert Scott Jackson of Uniontown, Alabama, Reverend John Poellenitz of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, George Poellenitz of Atlanta, Georgia; and he helped raised a beloved niece and nephew, Sheila J. Bright and Elton D. Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Jackson; father, Lee Poellenitz; sister, Annie Bell Keller; brother, Joe N. Jackson; and an infant daughter, Tonya Renee Jackson.
Friends may call Friday, May 16, 2014 from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon in the Carter Funeral Home, 127 W. Bridge St., Elyria, (440) 322-7788. A graveside service will follow in the New Russia Township Cemetery at 1 P.M. The Reverend John Poellenitz will give words of comfort.
