Ruth M. Kotnik (nee Anderson), 80, of Elyria, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain. She was born March 4, 1934 in her family home in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and was a resident of Elyria since 1953.
She was a homemaker and attended Church of the Open Door, where she worked as a daycare provider for the Ladies Bible Study ministry.
Ruth, who was affectionately known as “Grandma” to everyone, is survived by sons, Marvin (Becky) Kotnik of Maumee, Ohio and Jack Kotnik of Edgewater, Florida; daughters, Lelia Kotnik and Jeanie Kotnik, both of Oberlin, Diana DiVirgilio of Amherst, Dorothy Clark of Lorain; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Dolly (Jim) O’Connell of Steubenville; and a brother, Bob (Karen) Anderson of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jack “Jake” Kotnik, Sr. in 2002; father, Robert H. Anderson; mother Ruth G. Charnik and stepfather, Walter Charnik.
Friends will be received Monday, May 19, 2014, from 4 P.M., until the time of a 6 P.M. service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Pastor Rick Young, of Liberty Baptist Church, will officiate.
