Man discovers mortar-round in basement

LORAIN – A man who was cleaning out his basement on Sunday told police he found a mortar-round that was left there by his wife’s ex-husband.

At about 7 p.m. Lorain police and the Lorain County Bomb Squad came to the Edward Gibson’s house on the 1800 block of East 33rd Street on Sunday.

Gibson said he was cleaning out the basement when he found a 12 inch mortar-round – a type of bomb – which was left there by his wife’s ex-husband. Gibson tried to dispose of the mortar by putting it in a flower bed. The Lorain County Bomb squad inspected the weapon, saw that it was rusted over, and disposed of it.

I’m sure that is how the bomb squad disposes of dangerous items by putting them in a flower bed !!
