Police investigating stabbing of teenager

ELYRIA – A longstanding feud between a teenager and a 20-year-old came to a head early Wednesday morning when the adult’s brother stabbed the teenager in the back

The 20-year-old and his 23-year-old brother had fled by the time police arrived at the scene on the 300 block of 11th Street about 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

However, officers did find the 15-year-old victim with a single stab wound to his back still in the area. He was taken to MetroHealthMedicalCenter, where police were able to speak with him about what happened.

The teenager told police he’d had an argument with the 20-year-old at about midnight on the 1500 block of Middle Avenue. An hour after the argument, he said he was walking on the 300 block of 11th Street and ran into the 20-year-old again, who was accompanied by his 23-year-old brother. The teen said they started arguing again, prompting the 20-year-old to spray him with pepper spray before the 23-year-old stabbed him in the back, according to police.

The men ran off, leaving the teenager with a stab wound and a punctured lung, according to police. He was in stable condition at MetroHealth on Wednesday.

“This was not random. These are two people that know each other,” Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino said of the longstanding relationship between the 20-year-old and the teenager.

Costantino said the police department has the 23-year-old in custody and plans to charge him with felonious assault. They are still looking for the 20-year-old.
