Robbery suspect pleads guilty; another awaits trial

ELYRIA — One of two men accused of pistol whipping a Marco’s Pizza delivery driver during a February robbery pleaded guilty last week to aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence and other charges.

Michael Moore, 21, was accused along with Andre Hopper of robbing Steve Whitely, the nephew of Elyria Police Chief Duane Whitely, during the Feb. 23 attack in the lobby of a Fourth Street apartment building.

Police have said Moore used his phone to order a pizza and then three men attacked Steve Whitely when he arrived. Whitely was struck with a pistol when he tried to prevent the men from taking his cell phone.

Moore and the 21-year-old Hopper, who is still awaiting trial, were arrested. A third man has not been captured.
