George W. Thompson, 78, of Elyria passed away at home on Friday May 23, 2014 following a short illness. He was born July 19, 1935 in Oberlin.
George was a mechanical engineer, and retired from Bendix Heavy Vehicle Systems following over 30 years of service. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elyria. George treasured spending time with his family, wintering in Florida, bicycling, travel, golf and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years; Joanne E. (nee Younglas); two daughters, Sherry L. Albright (James) of Commercial Point, Ohio, Diane M. Page (Michael) of Elyria; a son, Michael E. Thompson of Kapolei, Hawaii; additional survivors include six grandchildren, Jimmy, Megan, Tyler, Melanie, Alex, Andrew; and a great grandchild, Drake; a sister; Elsie Wacker (Gary) of Sullivan, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Theresa (nee Fowler) Thompson; and a brother, James Thompson. All services are private. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion where Rev. Patrick Nicolino will officiate.
