Resident Edward Tarrant said his 22-year-old brother, Adrian Pennington, was hit in the head and was hospitalized at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. A witness, who wouldn’t give is name, said Pennington was bleeding profusely from his forehead, but was able to speak.
Resident Melinda Miller, 45, said Pennington was shot coming to her aid after a neighbor named Julian, Julian’s sister and Julian’s girlfriend attacked Miller, her 65-year old, aunt Barbara Pitts, and Briana Rush, Miller’s 26-year-old daughter, in the street. She said the fight stemmed from a Saturday fight between Julian’s girlfriend and Rush.
Miller said she was being beaten with sticks and shocked with a stun gun when Pennington intervened. Residents said the man they identified as Julian had the stun gun taken away from him and ran about 20 yards toward his home at 3915 Gary Ave. They said he then fired several shots from what they believed to be a .22-caliber pistol across the street.
“He meant to shoot me and he shot my friend,” Miller said. “His blood splattered all over me and he was screaming, ‘Please call 911.’”
Miller said Pitts may have suffered a broken right arm and broken ribs. Miller said Pitts was hospitalized at Mercy.
Police, who wouldn’t comment, taped off a three-house area, including the house where neighbors said Julian lived. Police cleared the scene at 12:35 a.m.
