Local sports: Banner year for Eastern Heights

It was a banner year for Eastern Heights, which won five city championships in boys basketball, football, boys track, wrestling and boys cross country.

The boys basketball team, coached by Paul Kothe, finished the season with a 7-7 record, advancing to the second round of the conference tournament.

The wrestling team, coached by Beau Brillhart and Scott Pagenstecher, finished the season with a 5-3 conference record, winning the city title over Northwood and Westwood by a point.

Individual standouts were Jason Truxall, Jacob Truxall, William Malone and Jaymone Whitaker.

The boys track team, coached by Brillhart and Pagenstecher, scored a season-high 80 points to win the city championship.

The eighth grade boys placed seventh in the conference, with Jesse Chapman, Justin Koepp, D’Aundre Roseboro, Jaylan Moore, Anthony Terry, Jordan Wesson and Sammy Daniels all earning conference honors.

The boys cross country team, coached by Kelly Luter, had an outstanding season with an array of standout performances by multiple runners.

It won the city title and had multiple top-place individual and team performances.

The football team, also coached by Brillhart and Pagenstecher, won its second straight city championship, beating Northwood, 46-20, and Westwood, 40-21.
