Boyfriend faces assault charges after man stabbed

Branson Gunter

Branson Gunter

LORAIN — A woman said her boyfriend got drunk, “flipped out,” and stabbed her son in the back before running from his house.

Branson Gunter, 27, was charged with felonious assault and assault about 10:30 p.m. Monday at his house on the 3200 block of Kneirim Dive.

Gunter’s girlfriend, Dawn Pickryl, told police Gunter started breaking furniture and throwing objects around the house before turning to her and ordering her to take him to the corner store.

When Pickryl and Gunter returned, Pickryl’s son, 19-year-old Anthony Pickryl, who was in the garage with a friend, started arguing with Gunter about destroying his mother’s property, according to the police report. During the argument, Gunter punched Anthony Pickryl’s friend, Jeremiah Byrd, 18, in the face, police said. Anthony Pickryl tried to break up the fight, but Gunter pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the back before running from the house, the report said.

Anthony Pickryl was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, treated and released.

As officers were talking to the family, Gunter came back to the house holding a bloody gray T-shirt, police said. He was taken into custody and told police, “Things got out of hand,” the report said.

He was taken to Lorain County Jail where he was being held on $25,000 bond on Tuesday.

He is scheduled to appear 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lorain Municipal Court.

Why is she dating a man only 8 yrs older than her son?

    • Razorback Twou

That is your only concern about this story? What about a lunatic running around stabbing young men?

  • Sis Delish

    Damn knives.

    • Scout

      Out law knives.

“Anthony Pickryl was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, treated and released.”

Why was he even flown to Metro if he was treated and released?

Can’t a local hospital provide care for what was obviously not a severe injury?

No wonder health care costs are going through the roof.

Oh well, at least he got a “free” helicopter ride.

    • Otter

Good question. I would think the Dr.s in lorain, and Elyria would have plenty of experience treating stab (and gun shot) wounds.

      • golfingirl

As a public hospital, MetroHealth provides care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay.

Most support comes from Cuyahoga County taxpayers.

So, they are just shifting costs, while at the same time increasing them through expensive, and often needless transportation.

Ship them out, someone else pays….in this case, the taxpayer….again!

        Nothing is “free.”

        • Otter

Based on how many helicopters fly over my house, I’m guessing there is a lot of “shifting” going on. The crazy part is they could, in most cases, get there faster in an ambulance.

          • golfingirl

            Good point.

    • Sue

“obviously not a severe injury” – were you there? Are you a doctor? Spout off more assumptions…

      • golfingirl

He was treated and released…not even admitted!

How serious could it have been?

I would hope a local physician could have treated this patient at a much lower cost.

Are “free” helicopter rides part of the Affordable Care Act?

    • Phil Blank

The police, ambulance and hospitals all “think” we have health coverage now. Does anyone think they are trying to get money out of the system?
All I have is Veteran health care, I doubt they will pay what the hospital wants.

  • SniperFire

Well, I don’t see a neck tat, so he has that going for him. Which is nice.

    • golfingirl

Probably on the back of his neck…..just can’t see it.

  • DonMega

Cut that nasty looking hair off before you go to court.

  • kiddingme

seriously. i wonder if she 1) doesn’t see the irony in her posts about the ACA and free-loading; or 2) just pretends not to understand the hypocritical nature of her rantings. i’m really not sure which is worse. or more pathetic.

  • golfingirl

    Actually by the second…laughing.

Just think, if I get “dumber” by the second, I will be at your I.Q level in about 20 years!
