Elyria officer responding to call crashes into tree

ELYRIA — A police officer driving to a burglary call Tuesday morning lost control of his cruiser and crashed into a tree, police said.

Elyria police officer Patrick Jama was responding to a burglary call about 1:30 a.m. when he lost control of his car around the 9600 block of East River Road and hit a tree, police said. Jama was treated and released at UH Elyria Medical Center for minor arm injuries and an eye irritation.

Police said Jama was wearing his seat belt. The crash is being investigated.

    Mark- why so negative? If he hadn’t been wearing his seat belt he would have probably suffered more serious injuries.

      Take a look when driving in Elyria , take notice how many are wearing seat belts in a police cruiser .
      On another note was he drug and alcohol tested after the crash ? Was he fiddling with his cell phone ?
