Evans_JamesOBIT FLAGJames R. Evans, 75, of Sheffield Village, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 26, 2014, at Mercy New Life Hospice after a long illness. He was born November 8, 1938, in Roane County, West Virginia.

James joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served proudly from 1956 to 1962. He was employed by Bendix Corporation and later joined the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, where he retired in 2006. In retirement, James loved spending quality time with his family on the boat fishing for perch and walleye. He was a loving brother, son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.

Mr. Evans is survived by his daughter, Donna R. Pletcher (David) of Sheffield Village; and son, Robert E. Evans (Sherri) of Sheffield Village; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Evans (nee Chait); father, James Harris; mother, Audra Harris; brother, Robert Evans; and sisters, Rosalee Fletcher and Francis Davis.

At the family’s request, services will be private for family only. Pastor Rick Keesee, Pastor of Midway Baptist, will officiate. Interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, with full Military Honors. Friends will be received at 4 P.M., Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Midway Baptist Church, 41812 Griswold Road, Elyria for fellowship.
