A former Westlake High School English teacher faces several charges for alleged sex crimes against two juvenile relatives.
Joseph Scherma, 66, of Westlake was arrested on May 2, according to police Capt. Guy Turner.
Turner said on April 24, a male juvenile relative and his parents reported an incident that allegedly occurred in February at the suspect’s home.
A search warrant was served at Scherma’s home on May 2 and items were seized and will be examined for evidence. The warrant has been sealed.
A second juvenile male relative was also identified as a victim of alleged incidents that occurred in mid-2013 or early 2014, according to Turner.
Scherma faces two counts of gross sexual imposition and four counts of rape. He was transferred to the Cuyahoga County Jail on May 6 after bonds were set. A temporary protection order has been issued by the Rocky River Municipal Court.
The grand jury indicted Scherma for numerous sex-related offenses.
