LORAIN — A woman was taken into custody Friday after police said she tried to run another woman over with her car.
Yvonne Loy, 40, of Lorain, was charged with felonious assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor about 11:30 p.m. Friday after she and her 15-year-old daughter started a fight with two young women at the Marshall Apartments on the 2500 block of Reeves Avenue.
Vincent Johnston, a security guard, told police he watched Loy and her daughter park near the apartments that evening. Loy got out of the car and walked over to 19-year-old Terri Hollway, who was standing in the area, Johnston said.
The two women started arguing and just as Loy began hitting Hollway, Loy’s daughter got out of the car and joined the fight.
Hollway’s friend, Nicole Rodriguez, 21, came over to break up the fight and Loy turned on her, hitting and scratching her, according to police. When Rodriguez and Hollway tried to run, Loy got back in her car and drove at Rodriguez in an attempt to run her over, police said.
Johnston told police he saw Loy drive the car onto the sidewalk, chasing after Rodriguez as she ran.
Police pulled over Loy and took her into custody while they talked to Rodriguez, who told police she was scared for her life because Loy almost hit her with the car twice.
Loy was held in Lorain County Jail until she was released on bond Tuesday evening.
