Girl, 9, escapes attempted abductor

ELYRIA — A man driving a black car tried to abduct a 9-year-old girl riding her bike Monday evening, police said.

About 7:45 p.m., the girl said, she was riding her bike on the 800 block of Sherwood Drive when a man driving a black car pulled up next to her. He was white and looked around 35, police said.

The man motioned for the girl to come over to his car, but she shook her head and kept riding. The man beckoned for her again, police said.

The girl dropped her bike, ran home and told her mother, who immediately called police.

“She did everything correctly,” Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino said, adding that police didn’t find the suspect.

If anyone has more information on this incident or similar incidents, Costantino said they should call police at (440) 323-3302.

Suspicious? Yes. But “attempted abductor” because he motioned for her to come over?

Right. Not saying he had good intentions, but maybe he just needed directions.

ita. attempted abduction would be grabbing. MOtioning is not an attempted abduction. That said, the girl did the correct thing.

I am not thinking i would ask a 9 year old girl for instructions. I don’t believe this was a plea for instructions.

Definitely, would be a proud parent of this little girl!
