Richard (Rick) G. Valentik, Sr., 65, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at home, with his family by his side. He was born in Elyria and spent a majority of his life as a resident of Lorain County.
After graduating from Elyria High School, Rick lived briefly in Fort Worth, Texas, where he worked at General Dynamics. Upon returning to Elyria, he worked at Curtis-Scheuffler Funeral Home and then at Majoras Ambulance before becoming a patrolman for the Elyria Police Department. During his career with the police force, Rick became the first Elyria City DARE Officer and was in charge of the Elyria Safety Town. Rick took great pride in working for the Elyria Police Department and cherished the friendships he developed with fellow officers over the years.
Rick retired from the Elyria Police Department in 1993 to care for his grandmother, Anna Valentik. Upon her passing, Ricky briefly returned to work before he once again provided loving care for a family member, this time staying home to care for his mother, Anna Valentik.
In his spare time, Rick enjoyed cutting grass, watching Cleveland sports, Ohio State Football, going out to eat and vacationing with his family. While his children were growing up, Rick enjoyed coaching and watching them play sports. Rick also took pride in being the ball boy for the Keystone High School football team and videographer for the Keystone High School boys’ basketball team.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara (nee Denes); sons, Rick Jr. of LaGrange, Jeff (Jennifer) of Galena, Jon of Columbus and Rob of Oroville, California; five grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Evan, Ava and Gavin; and one great-grandchild, Aiden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna (nee Glozik) Valentik.
Friends may call 2 to 6 P.M., Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Service will take place 11 A.M., Monday, June 9, 2014 in the funeral home. Interment will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
