Helga K. Sword

Sword_HelgaHelga K. Sword (nee Walther), 75, of Elyria, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at her home, following a long illness. She was born November 19, 1938 in Beienheim, Germany and was an Elyria resident since 1962.

Helga worked as a cook at Hazel’s Restaurant in Elyria for 10 years. She was also a homemaker and loved spending time with her granddaughters.

Survivors include her daughter, Debra Lawson of Lorain; son, James (Amanda) Sword of Elyria; granddaughters, Shaunta (Jason) Dennis and Alannah Sword USAF; sister, Margot Munz of Germany; caregiver, Gail Hart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on January 29, 2014; sisters, Hildegard Wagner and Irmgard Major-Walther; and a brother, Gerhard Walther.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 9, 2014 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Reverend James Deulley will officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
