Martha Margaret Strosnider Bentz, 94, passed away at her home Wednesday, June 4, 2014 following in a lengthy illness. Her life was filled with loved and grace. She was born August 13, 1919 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, to the late Ray S. and Alma Grimes Strosnider.
Martha graduated from the Washington Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1941. On October 21, 1943 she married Robert L. Bentz. After the War, Martha encouraged her husband to attend medical school. While he was earning his degree, Martha continued her career as a nurse working in a hospital and raising their three children. Upon his graduation, Martha and Robert worked side by side, dedicating their lives to the medical profession and service to others.
Martha was a former member of the Lakeland Women’s Club and a former member of Delaware Avenue Methodist Church and current member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church. She was a proud member of the DAR.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert Bentz and his wife, Lisa of Juniper, Florida; daughters, Alma Bernard of Lorain and Patricia Eagerand her husband Minor of Troy, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Dr. Scott Bentz (Dr. Melora) of Denver, Colorado, Ryan Bernard (Dr. Maria) of Columbia, South Carolina, Dr. Todd Bernard (Jenny) of Denver, Colorado, Amanda Rickers (Brian) of St. Louis, Missouri, Arianna Stein (Dr. Joshua) of Boston, Massachusetts, Alyse Bentz of St. Louis, Missouri, Kristina Bentz of Lyon, France and Alana Bentz of Juniper Inlet Colony, Florida; as well as her great-grandchildren, Luke, Olivia and Wesley Rickers, Grace and Gwendolyn Stein and Eleanor Bernard.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Robert L. Bentz; and by her siblings, Alice Ruth Strosnider, Sarah Williamson, Harvey K. Strosnider and Harold Ray Strosnider.
The Bentz family will receive friends Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. following the visitation. Pastor Greg Sellers of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
