ELYRIA — Lorain County residents should expect to see widened lanes, improved intersections and reduced congestion on state Route 57 after the conclusion of a long-awaited construction project that began this week.

At 5 p.m. today, city officials in Elyria and members of the Ohio Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting at Elyria City Council Chambers in City Hall, 131 Court St., to discuss how traffic patterns will change during the construction period.

In the construction, the city plans to widen Route 57 between the Ohio Turnpike and Interstate 90 to 6 lanes and improve intersections to make the road safer.

Though construction began Monday, the first traffic-pattern changes will go into place Monday, according to a news release.
