ELYRIA — Lorain County residents should expect to see widened lanes, improved intersections and reduced congestion on state Route 57 after the conclusion of a long-awaited construction project that began this week.

At 5 p.m. today, city officials in Elyria and members of the Ohio Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting at Elyria City Council Chambers in City Hall, 131 Court St., to discuss how traffic patterns will change during the construction period.

In the construction, the city plans to widen Route 57 between the Ohio Turnpike and Interstate 90 to 6 lanes and improve intersections to make the road safer.

Though construction began Monday, the first traffic-pattern changes will go into place Monday, according to a news release.

Simple Solution: Signs on Ohio Turnpike and Rt. 2:

“Nothing to see here, keep going.”, then close the exit ramps off both real highways, and only keep entrance ramps open for mass exodus from dying region.

You have Griswold all torn up, North Ridge between Rt. 57 and Garfield Bridge, and now this…what a mess!

    • Phil Blank

Thats a street away from the bridge. Garfield merges with and at Rt.57.
I’ve looked at the map and I’m trying to figure out how you would get from Lowes Home Center to the Mall without the 49th street bridge?

repairs and renovations need to be done…but PLEASE don’t block off or hinder traffic on all routes at the same time. More than once in the past there have been scenarios where all routes in a certain direction were closed off or constricted due to construction. Let’s plan a little…….
