Wellington brothers indicted on assault charges

ELYRIA — Two Wellington brothers have been indicted on felonious assault charges for allegedly attacking a motorist who had stopped when he saw them fighting.

Larry Sugaski has said he was driving by when he saw Thomas Denes Jr. and Todd Denes fighting in a front yard and stopped to ask if they needed help. They reportedly told him to mind own business, and Sugaski left.

But he has said the brothers threw rocks at his truck before getting in their own vehicle and following him.

Once at Findley State Park, Sugaski has said he stopped his car and got out to talk with the brothers. He said they then assaulted him.

Sugaski was treated at a hospital for a concussion following the attack.

In addition to the felonious assault charge, Todd Denes is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in connection with the Jan. 15 incident.

Wow, what in the world made him think that this was the appropriate action to take? He should have just called the police…..

Anymore that is what people should do-call the police don’t step in.

Trying to be a good samaritan is not always good.

Two verdicts here…guilty for the defendants, stupidity for the driver who tried to help.

This story don’t pass the smell test. Why would the brothers wait until Findley (where there is a scant chance of any witnesses, by the way) to assault the man? Where they still angry after that drive? And what makes it felonious assault? I see no mention of a weapon being used. I ain’t judging, I’m just saying.

No mention of a weapon being used? Fists can kill you just as well as a ‘weapon’.

step one: don’t fight in front yards near the street.
step two: if a good samaritan asks if you need help, do not chase them in your car.
step three: if you failed steps 1 and 2, do not assault said good samaritan.
