Torrance Vaughan, 44, of Elyria, was cited by Elyria police with disorderly conduct, menacing and resisting arrest after they arrested him near the Toy Box bar at 581 Broad St. about 2 a.m. Friday, according to reports.
Police arrested Vaughan after they stopped to assist a state trooper performing sobriety tests on motorists in the downtown area.
The incident began when a woman stopped by the trooper began to argue with him, and a man later identified as Vaughan walked toward the trooper, yelling at the woman to refuse the tests.
Vaughan continued to scream at the trooper and threatened to beat up the pair of policemen, reports said.
Police said Vaughan continued to struggle with police before being handcuffed and was pepper sprayed while being arrested.
Because of what police said was Vaughan’s status as a prominent violent offender, bond was denied pending his arraignment in Elyria Municipal Court.
Vaughan was being held at the county jail, police said.
