Avon crews extinguish fire at vacant house

The cause of a fire at a vacant house in Avon this morning is under investigation.

Avon Fire Department received a report at about 7:30 a.m. of smoke coming from a house at 37697 French Creek Road, according Assistant Fire Chief Timothy Golay said.

Crews arrived to find a fire confined to the basement of the empty house, Golay said. The fire was under control within 15 minutes.

SheffieldVillage, AvonLake and Westlake fire departments provided mutual aid. A fire investigator from North Ridgeville also assisted.

No one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but Golay said it is not suspicious.
