Ernest S. Kasper

Kasper_ErnestErnest S. Kasper, 79, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, in his home in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born in Elyria and was a graduate of Elyria High School, Class of 1953.

Ernie was also a graduate of the University of Miami, Class of 1957, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering, was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, and met and married his wife, Jackie (deceased 2007).

Ernie and Jackie lived and raised their family in Elyria, until moving to Vero Beach 18 years ago. During their tenure in Elyria, Ernie was the President and Owner of Kasper Foundry Company, a member of the Elyria Country Club, and a member of the Young Presidents Organization.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Ernie enjoyed being a member of the Vero Beach Bridge Club and volunteering for many local charities and community organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Florida Election Board, and the Dodgers.

Survivors include his daughter, Betsy Reid (Michael) of Hillsborough, North Carolina and their two children, Kassie (16) and Michael (9); his daughter, Jacky Purje (Lem) of West Palm Beach, Florida; and his granddaughter, Katie Nix (Andy) of Jackson, Michigan.

Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie (2007); and his oldest daughter, Kathy (2009).

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 P.M., Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M., Friday, June 20, 2014, at Holy Cross Catholic Church Vero Beach. Interment will be at Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach.
