Nine involved in Kolbe Road crash are named

Lorain police have released the names of the individuals involved in a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon.

Nancy Lotko, 56, of Vermilion, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro that drove left of center and struck a Kingston of Vermilion man on Kolbe Road, said Lorain Police Officer Kyle Gelenius.

Lotko was transported by Lifecare to Mercy Regional Medical Center and later flown to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

There were eight people in the van, which was driven by Douglas Substanley, 74, of Wakeman.

One of those passengers, Edna Akers, 87, of Vermilion, was taken to Mercy in critical condition before being flown to MetroHealth, where she was treated and released.

The other seven passengers were Maureen Byrne, of Vermilion; Delores Symons, 69, of Lorain; and Kingston of Vermilion residents Betty Schneider, 88; Johnathan Young, 65; Nannie Johnson, 83; and Grace Phillips, 81.

Johnson was being treated at MetroHealth on Friday.

Neither drug nor alcohol was suspected. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Neither drug nor alcohol was suspected. Then I am really curious to find out why the lady went left of center on a nice bright sunny day.

    • Sis Delish

That’s easy, because she Voted for Obama.

  • Abbie

Was she texting? And – did she hit a “Kingston of Vermilion man” or Kingston of Vermilion VAN?

It was a Kinston of Vermilion man, in a Kingston of Vermilion van. Along with seven Kingston of Vermilion women…..I guess!

I’m curious. Are there 2 gals by the name of Nancy Lotko in the Elyria and surrounding areas. I know a Nancy Lotko, originally from Elyria, but she would be more like 66 yrs. old instead of the age of 56 yrs. as mentioned in the article. Anyone know if this lady is Mike Lotko’s daughter, or sister of Gail Lotko?
