Mattie C. Bongs

Mattie C. Bongs, 110, of Willard, formerly of Elyria, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the Willows of Willard. She was born August 19, 1903, in Raymond, Minnesota, to the late William and Augusta (Barbhnecht) Bongs.

She worked in the storeroom in Woolworths in Elyria until retiring in 1967. Miss Bongs was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Elyria, where she was confirmed March 28, 1920, making her a member for 94 years. She was also in the ladies aid of the church and enjoyed crocheting and tatting.

Miss Bongs is survived by six nieces and nephews, Beverly Byars of Willard, Mildred Karpinski, Arlene Austin and Don Lottman, all of LaGrange, and Williams Bongs and Gert Heida, both of Minnesota, along with many great, great-great, and great- great- great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 10 until 11 A.M., Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 E. River Road, Elyria, with a Celebration of Life Service being held at 11 A.M., with the Reverend Robert F. Weldon, Sr. officiating. Burial will be held at the South Murray Ridge Cemetery.
