Charles graduated from high school in Bucksport, Maine and attended the University of Maine, where he received his Master’s Degree. He was a laboratory tech at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire. He holds licenses in Microbiology and Bacteriology. Charles was employed as a Microbiologist/Bacteriologist at Elyria Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the American Society of Clinical pathologists and a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church of Disciples of Christ. Bud served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany and obtained the rank of Corporal. Charles enjoyed sports, working at the Elyria Hospitality Center, Ohio Reads at Franklin School and especially his family.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline W. (nee Wakefield); daughters, Debra Simmons of Chagrin Falls, Sue (Dave) Runkle of Elyria; sons, Jeff (Karen) of Holden, Maine, Scott of Forked River, New Jersey, David (Kim) Hughes of Harpswell, Maine, Dwight (Ann) Hughes of Grafton; sister, Patricia Blodgett of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dana and Mary (nee Hooper); daughter, Linda Simmons; and granddaughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Hughes.
There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 4 P.M., Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Washington Ave. Christian Church of Disciples of Christ, 301 Washington Ave., Elyria. Pastor Dr. Janet Long will officiate. Burial will be private.
