Ky. man accused of kidnapping teen faces federal charges

A man accused of kidnapping a Sheffield Township teen is now facing federal charges.

On Monday, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Shawn Bivens, 33, according to a news release from the FBI.

Bivens was arrested on May 8 in Vanceburg, Ky., after a 14-year-old girl was found hiding in a trailer he was renting.

The girl had been reported missing a few days earlier by her mother, who lives in Sheffield Township.

Bivens denied that he knew the teen’s location when she was discovered in his residence, according to the release.

At the time, Bivens was charged with kidnapping in the first degree, custodial interference and two counts of rape in the third-degree.

The federal charges against Bivens include sexual exploitation of a minor and transportation of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity, according to the release.

Bivens is currently being held in the Lewis County Jail in Lewis County, Kentucky. He will be extradited to Ohio to face the federal charges at a later date.
